Our aim is to promote a greater public understanding of animals through research

Our work includes supporting veterinary research at all levels, funding bursaries for veterinary studies and investing and administering a variety of financial portfolios to promote the knowledge, image and status of the Veterinary and Paraveterinary Professions and practice within Southern Africa.

Our general purpose is to improve the quality of life for both animals and people.

Formation and Purpose

The South African Veterinary Foundation was founded in 1984 and is a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) (registration number 1984 / 003967 / 08) and is registered with the Department of Social Development as a registered Public Benefit Organisation with registration number 930001649.

The foundation was established to raise money to promote a greater understanding of animals by means of research and an informed public.

Foundation Mandate

To promote and advance Veterinary and other Biological Sciences in all their aspects.  This includes supporting veterinary research at all levels, to fund bursaries for veterinary studies and to invest and administer various financial portfolios in order to promote the knowledge, image and status of the Veterinary and Paraveterinary Professions and practice within Southern Africa resulting in improved quality of life for animals and people.
