The aim of this project supported by the SA Veterinary Foundation is to collate, draw up, and publish sets of codes and to incorporate this information into a Manual of Animal Care and Use for use by interested parties.
This includes the following:
- Supplying of information to the National Department of Agriculture for the revision of legislation. (See attached file : Animal Care Legislation Review (PDF – 288kb).
- The following 2 laws are to be amalgamated and updated in the near future:
- Animal Protection Act (Act 71 of 1962)
- Performing Animal Protection Act (Act 24 of 1935
Drafting of a “Code of Practice” for all aspects of animal care and use. The information will be supplied to the various groups of the South African Veterinary Association and other concerned parties. On completion this information will be supplied as a CD free of charge to all Southern African veterinarians (South Africa and surrounding countries)
Compilation of a “Manual of Procedures” for veterinarians. This will be available on the web site as well as being supplied free of charge in printed format and CD to the above veterinarians
Compile a list of definitions for animal use in legislation
